new school year
The new school year is starting for students of all ages.  And, parents, teachers and students are ready.  However, starting school is a difficult time for students of all ages.  Even if the school is a familiar place, they are about to experience a new curriculum, new schedule, meet new students and teachers.

Both parents and teachers are excited. Classrooms have new visuals and lessons are ready.  Teachers take time to listen to students’ summer experiences and/or have a discussion about the summer assignments. In addition, students are ready to review skills and content as well as learn new.

Also, teachers and councelors ready themselves for students’ anxieties and concerns. They point out positive aspects of the new class, meeting new friends, and the participation in various activities.

New School Routine

In addition, teachers and counselors point out the need of a daily routine at home.  The daily routine is to have clothing ready for the next day, make sure assignments are complete, eat a good breakfast, and get to sleep early. School preparation is necessary for a successful day of learning.

First Day Jitters

The first day of school is one of the most important days of the entire school year for both teachers, parents and students.  It provides an impression that will set the tone for the year ahead.  Back to school anxieties often fade away after the first few days upon returning to class.  If sleep problems occur, persistent stomachaches, pleas to stay home, or a display of unwarranted behaviors, seek the help of a school counselor.

Increased awareness of parents and teachers can make a positive difference in a new school year for every student.  Establish communication from home to school in the beginning.  Be a model for community communication with students. As a parent and/or teacher, be accountable by thinking of more than academics.  Plan and set realistic goals to ensure a successful school year. And, most of all include daily attendance as a goal.  Attendance every day is critical.
