Safe school reopening is everyone’s hope. Reopening school is on the mind of many parents and administrators. However, it must be done safely.  Presently, officials can only say they will do everything to ensure the schools safely open.

Students need to return to brick and mortar schools so learning doesn’t suffer. Remote learning doesn’t compare to students in a classroom with their peers.  Schools need to reopen so services are rendered to students in need. Also, many students depend on food services for proper health.

Safe Schools Consider Possibilities

-There are some possibilities for schools to safely open in August or September.

-First, schools can simply start as usual.

-Second, schools can mirror the remote and distance learning from home.

-Choose a later date to begin the school year. Or start earlier and prepare for future closures.

-Concentrate on social distancing.

-Create various starting schedules.

Many possibilities are on the table. However, to steer away from brick-and-mortar schools and classroom instruction creates a challenge. Also, employee paychecks and a grade for student work are of concern.

Problems

Today’s problem with a plan to open is the Education Secretary, Betsy DeVos does not have a plan. Also, there is no guidance from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. This leaves state and local education systems to figure out a plan of their own.

Many understand it is impossible to keep students at a social distance. Some research says the young are less likely to get the virus but, they can pass it to the adults at home. Still, there must be more research. Therefore, schools must rethink how to keep students at a proper distance.

Students need interaction with peers for proper development. Interaction helps a student process and learn new material. Furthermore, it builds communication skills. With peer and teacher interaction, students become responsible for their learning. Still, many worry about the virus.

To ensure safe schools, they need money. Funding to prepare for the safety of students, and staff. Funding for collaboration of administrators so they focus on resources needed for students to have a safe environment.
