Narrative Writing Builds Intellect

Narrative writing provides insight to the experiences of children. Also, writing gives a path for students to tell their stories and express themselves.  Narratives give us insight to the thoughts of students. And, the writing interprets experiences.  Stories build strength and aides children to make sense of themselves and others.

Writing in the early ages  builds aesthetic sensitivity as children reflect on their work.  However, storytelling is the bridge to writing and early literacy. They both serve to bridge the home and community to the school. Narrative writing lets children discover their identities and work through real-life problems. It helps students deal with stress and is a therapeutic outlet to help them cope.

All students need to write every day, whether in school or at home through journals, notebooks, diaries and child-made greeting cards. In doing this, parents and educators strengthen academic skills.

•  Writing improves communication.  It boosts their comfort level to relate their thoughts and feelings.

•  Narrative writing demonstrates the learning process. It shows what the student knows, doesn’t know, and misunderstandings of content material.

•  Writing also provides students with self-understanding. It helps the writer to have insight to his/her own experiences and abilities.

•  Various types of writing  lets students explore different venues.

Writing makes the brain focus on the classroom learning and homework.  It  builds long-term memory and shows patterns. Writing stimulates the brain to reflect on topics. Thus, stimulating the brain’s highest cognition. In short, writing makes students better learners.

As students write every day, writing becomes a habit. Therefore, it leads to repetition. The more children and students write, the better they get. Therefore, it gives students a sense of accomplishment as they finish a piece of work. Also, it gives them a positive feeling of achievement which leads them on the path of future success.
