Motivating learners is a problem that most parents and teachers face today. Engaging students in a task for a period of time is difficult. Students want quick responses and immediate answers. However, studies show that students that stay engaged in the learning task perform higher academically. Motivation affects how students pay attention and understand by hearing and viewing various ideas and experiences.

Motivation, however, is inherent to the individual student. But, teachers and parents play an important role. A student’s learning depends on whether a parent has a positive or negative impact on what is learned in school. Therefore, a child must know what is learned is important. It is important to recognize a child’s/student’s efforts and praise the successes.  There are many ways to let children and students understand the importance of learning.

•   Regular conversations after school gives insights as to what is learned. Also, discussions on interests and concerns help provide motivation.

•   Plan activities that involve learning.

•   Work with the schools and the school community.

•   Point out new learning of your own.

Leading by example and showing enthusiasm toward learning new concepts is a simple way to demonstrate motivation.

Teachers Motivating Learners

Every day teachers enthusiastically find ways to motivate students to learn new concepts. They believe in them, encourage them, give students responsibility, offer incentives and much, much more. Teachers keep connections open between home and school. They are flexible in style and methods. All teachers find ways to engage each student into each individual style of learning.

Motivation moves society.  Its important to students so they actively look for resources that guarantee success.  Its importance lies within the home environment and the classroom. It proves persistence and effort. Motivation improves the student’s cognitive processing skills.  Thus, a student’s overall performance improves.

All students become frustrated and unmotivated at times. They struggle through new material, through a new activity, or not receiving recognition for a particular task.  Parents and schools must recognize all students for their strengths and efforts.

So, parents and educators must find ways to keep children and students motivated. After all, they will be the world’s next leaders.
