Summer break for students and teachers is well needed. It’s especially needed after almost two years of the pandemic. Students and teachers got up early to log into virtual lessons. Teachers need rest after the creation of the many virtual lessons for students. Also, parents and teachers need rest from the many virtual meetings. Students need rest from learning to log into lessons and complete assignments. The mental strain on students, teachers, and parents is huge. A summer break provides everyone with the mental stress relief of the school year. The chance to get outside and enjoy the weather for all involved is necessary. Studies indicate that rest from time off lessens irritability, depression, and anxiety.

Even though the pandemic gave family time, it is different than summer break from school time. Summer break gives everyone time to mentally regroup and enjoy different activities. A change of pace, different settings give students a chance to apply the school year’s learning. Additionally, the break from school lets students build their social schools. Besides, teachers also need to expand their social skills with more than their school’s employees.
Older students benefit from the break in the school year. Thus, they can get summer jobs and make money. More so, some students will experience their first job. Also, they build intrapersonal skills and interactive skills through a job.
Processing and the Brain
Research shows students’ brains aren’t idle when they take a break from school. The brain works processing facts, skills, and memories. The brain makes sense of all the experiences from the school year. The experiences are applied to the new learning.
Breaks from the classroom have an important part of a student’s cognitive abilities. These abilities include comprehension skills. Also, breaks promote a student’s divergent thinking.
