Common sense is a trait that everyone needs. However, it is different for each person. There is a variety of degrees with common sense in each person’s personality. Nonetheless, parents and teachers can teach students to use what they’ve got. In fact, common sense is the most valuable thing for all children to learn.

Many students think they are entitled to whatever they want. Their parents do everything for them. Therefore, there is a lack of good judgment. It is the responsibility of parents and teachers to guide students so they meet success.

There are a variety of ways to guide children to learn reasoning skills. First, read to children and students. Begin at an early age. Reading also teaches problem-solving skills. Next, the exploration of new environments with young children is important. Children that explore outside build common sense as they observe critters. Also, let them climb and build with objects. Then let them knock things down. This helps them learn.

Building Common Sense

Common sense comes from experiences in school and life outside the classroom. It is not formal instruction. It comes with working in teams and listening to others as they work through projects. Thus, they get other perspectives. Additionally, good sense is built by repetition that leads to the success of a process.

Reflection is a great way to build sound judgment in children. They think about their actions. Therefore, they become self-aware of their behavior. They learn what to do in various situations. Thus, they understand themselves and learn how to react in future endeavors. They learn to be proactive rather than reactive.

As parents and teachers take away a student’s fear of failing, students learn to have good judgment. Therefore, fear must be overcome.

Building common sense is to understand that regardless of intelligence, students must face the actions of others. They can simply learn how to acquire a common sense of their own.
