I am an Independent Consultant in education. My focus is on inquiry based instruction, notebooks, science literacy, questioning techniques, assessment, strategic planning, and program sustainability. Before retiring from the central office position of programs director I was an elementary principal, a science resource teacher that provided professional development classes for teachers and administrators and a teacher for a total of 39.I continue to work closely with school districts across the United States to integrate science into the curriculum.
I was instrumental in developing a course on science notebooks after researching school districts in Seattle Public Schools in Washington and the El Centro, California.
Presently I am a member of the review panel for The Mickelson Exxon Mobil Teachers Academy. I recently became a scorer for PARCC grade 5 ELA through Pearson in Charlotte, NC.
Nationally I was on the faculty for the LASER K-8 Science Education Strategic Planning Institute in Washington D.C., Pittsburgh, PA, Greensboro, North Carolina, and Asheville, North Carolina. I have been a presenter in the Inquiry Strand at the Next Steps Institute through the National Science Resources Center in Green Bay, Wisconsin. My other presentations include NSTA and AETS on teacher research and questioning techniques.
My recent work in professional development includes creating a course on Improving Math Sores in the Elementary and Middle School Classroom through Productive Questioning. I have presented a short version of this one-day course for the NCAEE 2015 conference in Concord, NC.
I received my B.S., M.A. and Principal’s Certification in Elementary Education from California University of Pennsylvania. Additionally I received the Distinguished Principal Award through the Principals Academy of Western Pennsylvania, School Leadership Mentor for the Department of Educational Administration and Leadership from California University on Pennsylvania, and Pennsylvania Academy for the Profession of Teaching and Learning Principals Leadership Induction: Promoting Excellence in School Leadership.
