Free Spirited Children

Free spirited children are seen every day.  They demonstrate an exorbitant amount of energy at home and in school.  And, their emotions are intense. In addition, when they demonstrate their energy, it is difficult to manage their behaviors.

Equally, free spirited children are intense, persistent, sensitive, perceptive, curious and independent. Therefore, they drive everyone crazy with their energy and capers. They make parents angry and teachers busy. So, what does it look like? The free spirit shouts, acts out, throws tantrums, runs away, cries and demands his/her way.

However, a child/student that has these qualities  are a handful to raise and educate. But, the qualities they contain are extremely useful to succeed in today’s competitive world.Free spirited

Free Spirited Children And Control

To get control of the free spirited child does not call for harsh discipline measures. And, it does not mean showing who is the boss so the child/student yields to authority. Simply, it means to establish ties and connections that bond with them.  These connections teach them to calm themselves and use their energy constructively.

•   Demonstrate that you are the alfa. Show respect and expect respect in return.

•   Be ready to prevent a problem by the anticipation of an action.

•   Stay calm, avoid a power struggle. Anger adds fuel to the fire.

•   Next, keep structure to their routines. Organize time and space.

•  Avoid hard discipline measures. Be reasonable.

•   Teach problem-solving skills that will provide alternative actions.

It is also important to remember that there are ways you can convince them to do what you want done, at least most of the time. Word comments and requests carefully. Don’t make definitive comments.  If in need, school counselors are able to help with the high spirited child.

Strong willed children turn out to be strong willed adults. They march for civil rights, start businesses and become successful contributors to society. So, don’t try to overpower them. Be grateful and find ways to capture their strong will for good.
