Homework does not prepare students for the real world say some people. Some perceive homework as random assignments that take too much time to complete. However, others say assignments completed at home prepares students for the future.
A main goal of out of class assignments is to give parents and students the opportunity to interact.

• Furthermore, homework encourages students to be responsible and complete a task.

When Homework is Bad
Too much homework doesn’t give students the time to process what was learned that day. Students need down time. The National Education Association states that students should have about 10 minutes of homework per grade level. Also, research states no kindergarten assignments.
Right or Wrong Assignments
There are various types of home assignments. However, some are beneficial and others are not.
• Relevant assignments must pertain to the day’s classwork.
• Assignments must be at the level of a student’s ability.
• Parents and students must share the activity through discussions or review.
The Learning Atmosphere
Homework plays an important part in a student’s learning. It provides a link to academic success. Furthermore, it focuses on a student’s personal development. It allows students to think outside of what is taught in class.
In addition to thinking outside of class, it develops good study habits that reinforce previous learning. Also, assignments that require practice allow students to do better on tests.
The bottom line, students develop positive life skills and become lifelong learners through homework assignments.
