The Strengths of Children Need Developed

practice

The strengths of students are unique to each child. Parents and teachers recognize the individuality of each person. A student’s differences must be used to expand their learning in class and at home.

Students express their knowledge in different ways. Some communicate through artistic ability. Others express their differences through oral communication. Still, others write their thoughts and understandings. As a student’s strengths begin to develop, their weaknesses also develop.

The Strengths and Weaknesses

A deep awareness of the strengths and weaknesses of a student’s skills helps them to achieve in and out of school. Additionally, it helps the student grow their self-awareness. They understand their own abilities and can further develop skills. As the student grows aware of his or her skills, they will spend more time developing them. Thus, they tend to overcome some of their weaknesses. It is more important to develop a student’s strengths than to focus on weaknesses.  Students who focus on what they can achieve grow to be happier, less stressed, and more confident.

To find the strengths of students, focus on what makes them happy.

  • Also, focus on what they like to do.
  • Determine what makes them successful.
  • Look at what engages them.
  • Observe how they feel after an activity.

Some children are good at something but they hate it. Consequently, that is not a strength that needs to improve. To identify the strength of students, one tool to use is Howard Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences.  Also, the use of positive affirmations helps students to understand themselves. It empowers students as they understand their strengths and weaknesses. The process of identification permits students to follow a path of interest. Thus, a student that has no motivation turns into an avid learner.

Teachers and parents need not discourage any area of interest from students.  Additionally, all skills and interests need to be evaluated, not only the academics.  Any interest is important to understand and learn what motivates a student. Strengths are a journey for families, teachers, and students to take.
