As students read material that is too difficult to understand, motivation is lost. Therefore, they do not choose to read. there are many other reasons that students do not read.

  • – Many students have too much to read.
  • – Their work or activity schedule is too busy for them to read for enjoyment.
  • – The student can not find a book that motivates the love to read.
  • – They need reading strategies to help with new vocabulary or help with comprehension skills.

Thus, the brain is not built to read. All parts of the brain get stronger through the reading process.

Reading out loud to students and children exposes them to new genres and authors. Also, it models strategies to visualize the story. The introduction of the new vocabulary is also built as a student or child listens to the reader. Oral reading is beneficial to students through middle school
